Sweepstakes
Official Rules

No purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win. A purchase or payment will not increase your chances of winning.

Eligibility

The ComicSmith Beta Sweepstakes (the "Sweepstakes") is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia, and Canada (including the Province of Quebec) who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees, officers, directors, members, managers, and agents of ComicSmith L.L.C. and their immediate family members (spouse, parents, children, and siblings, regardless of where they reside) are not eligible to participate. Void where prohibited by law.

How to Enter

Method 1

Beta Program Entries: Participants in the ComicSmith beta program will receive one (1) entry for each validated Defect Correction submitted during the Sweepstakes Period, up to a maximum of one thousand (1,000) entries per person. A "Defect Correction" means the identification of one (1) distinct physical defect present on the submitted comic that was not identified in ComicSmith's condition report. Multiple marks, damage points, or condition issues arising from a single cause, occupying a contiguous or related area, or of the same type within the same region of the comic (for example, multiple pen strokes comprising one instance of writing, or multiple stress marks along one section of spine) constitute a single Defect Correction. The determination of what constitutes a distinct defect, and whether a submitted correction is validated, will be made by ComicSmith in its sole reasonable discretion using its defect-region mapping system, and such determination is final and binding. The defect types eligible for Defect Corrections are listed in Appendix A to these Official Rules. Duplicate reports of the same defect will not generate additional entries.

Method 2

Free Alternate Method of Entry (AMOE): To enter without participating in the beta program and at no cost, send an email to admin@comicsmithai.net with your full name, country of residence, and the subject line "ComicSmith Beta Sweepstakes Entry." Email entries are limited to one (1) entry per person regardless of the number of emails submitted. No purchase, payment, or other consideration is required to use this method of entry.

Unique Physical Copy Limitation

Each unique physical comic book may be submitted for Defect Corrections one (1) time. Validated Defect Corrections may be earned only from the first eligible submission of a given physical comic; subsequent scans, resubmissions, or submissions of the same physical comic, whether by the same or a different entrant or account, do not generate additional entries. ComicSmith may use its copy-identification technology, including defect-pattern fingerprinting, to determine whether submissions depict the same physical comic, and ComicSmith's reasonable determination is final. There is no limit on the number of validated Defect Corrections that may be earned from a single eligible submission, subject to the one thousand (1,000) entry per-person maximum stated above.

In-Training Defect Types

ComicSmith's condition-analysis system is in active development, and certain defect types may be designated “in training” within the application. Corrections identifying in-training defect types are eligible for validation and earn entries on the same basis as all other Defect Corrections.

Manufactured or Induced Damage

Defect Corrections arising from damage that ComicSmith reasonably determines was deliberately inflicted, induced, staged, or manufactured for the purpose of generating entries are invalid. ComicSmith reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process, submits deliberately damaged materials, or otherwise attempts to manipulate the Sweepstakes, and to void all entries of any such entrant.

Sweepstakes Period: The Sweepstakes entry period begins upon the public launch of the ComicSmith beta application, as announced in the application and at comicsmithai.net, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Central Time on the earlier of: (a) January 1, 2027; or (b) the date on which ComicSmith announces that its data-collection goal — one thousand (1,000) validated examples of each defect type listed in Appendix A — has been reached, or such earlier date as ComicSmith may designate upon no fewer than seven (7) days' public notice posted in the application and at comicsmithai.net/rules (the “Early Completion Date”). Early completion does not affect entries already earned. The winner will be selected, and the prize awarded, from all eligible entries received prior to the close of the entry period, regardless of whether the entry period ends on January 1, 2027 or an Early Completion Date. All entries must be received before the close of the entry period. Entries generated through automated, robotic, or other means not contemplated by these Official Rules are void.

Drawing and Notification:

One (1) winner will be selected by random drawing from all eligible entries on or about January 15, 2027, or, if the entry period closes on an Early Completion Date, within fourteen (14) days following that date, and notified by email at the address provided at entry. The winner must respond within fourteen (14) calendar days of notification or an alternate winner may be selected. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

Canadian Residents — Skill-Testing Question Requirement:

Any Canadian resident selected as a potential winner must correctly answer, without assistance of any kind (including electronic or mechanical), a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question as a condition of being declared the winner and receiving the prize. The skill-testing question will be administered by email and will consist of a mathematical equation requiring a minimum of three (3) arithmetic operations (for example: (15 × 4) + 12 ÷ 3 − 6). Failure to correctly answer the skill-testing question within the specified time limit will result in forfeiture of the prize and selection of an alternate winner.

Additional Provisions for Quebec Residents:

Residents of the Province of Quebec may enter and are eligible to win. ComicSmith L.L.C. reserves the right to amend or cancel this Sweepstakes at any time as required to comply with applicable Quebec consumer protection laws. Any dispute regarding the conduct of this Sweepstakes may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux ("RACJ") for a ruling. A dispute regarding the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the RACJ only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.

Prize

One (1) comic book with an approximate retail value not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars (USD $200.00 / CAD $270.00 approximate). The prize is awarded "as is" without warranty of any kind. The prize is non-transferable and no substitution or cash equivalent is permitted except at ComicSmith’s sole discretion. Winner is solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, provincial, and local taxes. For Canadian winners, the approximate retail value is stated in both USD and CAD for disclosure purposes; actual prize value is determined at time of award.

Privacy and Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

Personal information collected in connection with this Sweepstakes will be used solely for the purpose of administering the Sweepstakes, contacting the winner, and fulfilling the prize. ComicSmith L.L.C. will handle personal information of Canadian residents in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Entry into this Sweepstakes does not constitute consent to receive commercial electronic messages under CASL. ComicSmith will not use entry information to send commercial electronic messages to Canadian residents without obtaining separate express consent.

General Conditions

By entering, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of ComicSmith L.L.C., which are final and binding in all matters relating to this Sweepstakes. ComicSmith L.L.C. is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, incomplete, or illegible entries. Entrants agree to release and hold harmless ComicSmith L.L.C., its officers, directors, members, managers, employees, and agents from any liability arising from participation in the Sweepstakes or acceptance of the prize. ComicSmith L.L.C. reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Sweepstakes at any time if fraud, technical failure, or any factor beyond its reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper operation of the Sweepstakes, as determined by ComicSmith L.L.C. in its sole discretion.

Governing Law

This Sweepstakes is governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota (for U.S. residents) and the applicable federal and provincial laws of Canada (for Canadian residents), without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from this Sweepstakes shall be resolved in the appropriate courts of jurisdiction for the entrant’s place of residence.

Winner List

For the name of the winner, send an email to admin@comicsmithai.net within sixty (60) days after the Drawing. Requests from Canadian residents may also be submitted by email to the same address within the same period.
